Microsoft has patched two previous patches to fix critical flaws in Windows XP and Vista. The first fix, originally released on April 8, could allow a hacker to seize control of your computer. If you visit a malicious Web site set to exploit the flaw, the hacker will get the same level of privileges as the current user.

The second critical patch repairs a patch first issued back on July 10, 2007. The problem is in the .NET Framework. It too could allow an attacker to take over your PC.

Go to the Microsoft Update site now, and see if there are any updates for your computer. Watch the process closely. You may first have to download and install an updated version of Microsoft’s Windows Genuine Advantage Tool.
