Google helps you search safely, as I discussed just below. If you are using the latest version of AVG anti-virus software, version 8.0.1, you may also see either a green check mark beside each search result, or a question mark. Slide your mouse over each symbol.

In the case of the green check mark, you will see a box advising you that the page contains no active threats. If it is a question mark, however, AVG was unable to scan the page or unable to give an opinion. The page may indeed contain malware or spyware. You will need to be patient; large sites like this one can take several minutes to scan. Go get a coffee while waiting!

Download it if you like, but be sure to remove your old anti-virus software before installing AVG. You should have only one anti-virus program installed and running on your computer, or they may conflict with each other and crash your machine.
