A few days ago, security company Trend Micro was the victim of a big hack attack. Some pages of its Web site were attacked. The pages were subsequently removed and fixed. This appears to be part of a wider attack that may have affected over 20,000 Web pages.

The attack injects malicious code into the sites. When you visit such a site, it usually appears OK. However, it tries to install password-stealing software onto your computer. The good news is, the attack code exploits flaws that have already been patched.

So all you have to do is keep your security software up to date including Windows, as well as all your other programs and applications. This is not nearly as complex as it sounds. Go here and read how easy it is: http://mypcsecurityblog.com/updates/keep-all-your-other-stuff-updated

At the moment, the malicious code looks for passwords for some online games. As with other similar threats, this could change, so be on guard, especially when playing games on the Internet.

Meanwhile, over in Seattle, the “King of Spam” may soon start serving a 26-year sentence in the slammer. Robert Soloway, 28, has been found guilty of spamming in several civil and criminal cases going back to 2005. He bragged in the past that he has never paid a dime in fines.

He will be sentenced June 20, and may indeed have to pay a hefty fine, or do time in jail. Or both. It is very rare for spammers to face jail, so this is good news, as a warning to others.

Finally, beta (test) versions of and are out. Unless you are an experienced user, you might be better off waiting for the final versions. So far, it looks like Firefox is a real winner.
