Here’s yet one more reason to have a full set of security programs on your computer, and to keep them up to date.  One fine day you may experience serious problems with your computer.  You run all your security scans, but problems persist.

You are not worried – yet – because you know you can always fall back on a Restore Point.

System Restore is part of Windows, and takes periodic complete snapshots of your computer, called Restore Points, as we just discussed in my Oct. 18 post (see below).

If you have problems, you simply roll your computer back to one of these Points before you had the problem, and voila!  The problem disappears.

You can find System Restore by clicking Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore.

There are 2 problems with this pleasant scenario.  First, if your computer was infected with a virus or spyware when the Restore Point was made, then going back to that Point will re-infect your computer.

Second, malware has now become so powerful and sophisticated that it may simply delete your Restore Points, leaving you well and truly stuck.  So keep all your security programs up to date, and scan your computer for malware on a regular schedule.
