As you would expect, the U.S. presidential campaign has generated spam campaigns related to one of the candidates.


A spam email message is making the rounds, saying it contains a link to a video of giving a speech. The subject line is “Hillary Clinton Video!!” or similar. If you click the link, a Trojan will be downloaded to your computer. This will enlist your PC into a botnet, used to send out a flood of spam.


The other frontrunners, and , have not had their names associated with malware. Yet.


As I mentioned earlier this month, be on guard against scams relating to those rebate checks that the U.S. Government is about to send out. You may be contacted by email or telephone, to try and trick you into giving your personal and banking information, supposedly to arrange direct deposit of your check. Or perhaps for some other bogus reason.


Neither the U.S. Government nor the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) contacts people in this manner.
