The state of Kentucky Court of Appeals has just ruled that the Governor of all the Kentuckians cannot seize 141 names of offshore Internet gambling sites. So the Web is safe for the moment, I guess.

The good Gov. Steve Beshear disapproves of gambling, which is fine. But the Court of Appeals overturned a lower court ruling authorizing the seizure. The Court said an Internet address does not constitute a gambling device. Well, duh…

A spokesman for the Governor said they are studying the ruling, and will decide whether to appeal it to a higher court. The state government may not like online . But the racetrack variety is still going strong in Kentucky, last I heard.

Frankly, I do not much like Internet gambling either. But, like many of our vices, it is virtually (no pun intended!) impossible to eradicate it. Much better to tax and control it, and keep it reasonably honest.
