Spam – Here We Go Again

Last week we talked about how that big email spammer in California, McColo, was finally shut down. Spam levels immediately dropped sharply, plunging as much as 75% in the days following the shutdown. This occurred because some of the world’s biggest spammers were running spam-sending botnets using McColo’s servers.
Now the junk mail flood is climbing again. The other day, it totaled over 70 billion emails (yes, that’s billion, with a “b”!) And remember, that was for one day. That’s about half the daily volume we saw before McColo was shut down.
But it is rising from the low of 64 billion on Nov. 13, just after McColo was knocked off the Internet.
The battle against this junk is never-ending. Be on your guard at all times, and always follow good email and surfing practices.
