Are they very smart? Or just plain crazy? Make that, very crazy? Two guys in Montreal, Canada have just launched a new search engine, called Atnio.com

Yes, Johann Bruno and Robert Munro are tackling Google head-on. Sort of. In fact theirs is a meta-search engine. Meta means about. What Atnio does is combine the best search results from Google, Yahoo and Microsoft Live Search. This is not new; it has been tried before, by search engines that have come and gone.

But Atnio says it produces only the best results and the safest, most reliable links, without the phony or malicious Web sites that plague the Internet today. The results point to real, relevant sites. In addition, you can customize Atnio’s search page by adding weather forecasts for your city, email, news feeds, etc. Google and others have done the same thing.

As with Google, Atnio plans to make its money from advertising, and may eventually become an actual search engine. If you want to give it a try, go to http://www.atnio.com We wish the new company luck.
